Internet capping at 100mbps

Hi all,

I have an issue wherein my connection is capping at 100 mbps when it used to easily reach the 1Gbps I pay for from my IPS.

The connection dropped below 100mbps abruptly without me tinkering with cables/settings and I can't seem to get it back to its max anymore.

Speed tests on my pc's connection reach 90mbps through a cable, but if I connect to my modem's wifi (I don't have other pcs to perform a cabled speedtest from the modem) I get over 120mbps download speed even if I'm in another room.

 

I have a D-Link DIR 842 that connects through a 20m CAT5 cable to my modem (provided by my IPS and built to reach 1Gbps speeds).

I've tried changing the cable that connects to my pc from the router and have ended up using the cable provided by D-Link as it is the one that used to give me great speeds.

One idea was to try and connect to the router's settings by using D-Link's addresses (either 192.168.0.1 or http://dlinkrouter.local./) but it won't connect to any thing and I just get an error in connecting message. Now I think that the only solution would to be in getting a newer generation cable (maybe CAT6 or 7, prices don't vary too much between them).

 

Do you think that I should jump the gun and just change the cable or would it be better to try a factory reset on my router first? Also, any suggestions that wouldn't require me to purchase a new cable are more than welcome. I haven't been able to find any help on the Internet so far.

Leaving this for anyone else that might have the same issue: SOLVED - I hard reset the router and it's back to normal.
