there are some with dvd drives but I found that the ones with dvd drives made more compromises to have it today.

Most laptop with dvd drive are bad, suggest getting external one instead

This one seems to be a nice choice, It doesn't have a DVD Drive though, but I recommend external ones in today's time anyway!

would you recommend the i3 or the ryzen 5 considering the price difference and the fact that it will be used mostly just for school and web browsing

If you don't need more than 128GB of storage (Don't plan on installing lot's of large programs, etc.), the i3 is good, however, you could also just buy an SSD to upgrade it with. The Ryzen is also a decent deal for that price.
