Building a Ryzen PC

oDillonx2

I built my first pc years ago and haven't done that much with it just a couple of minor upgrades. Anyway I want to build a new PC but maybe not straight away I was thinking of doing it in stages as I heard AMD are possibly only supporting the AM4 chipset till this year. I was thinking of getting a case now and then maybe a new graphics card and waiting to get a new motherboard, CPU and RAM (Current Motherboard only supports DDR3). Is it worth waiting or will AMD be supporting the chipset longer? Thanks

AMD will support it a bit longer. Besides that this noe Ryzen stuff is pretty powerful and will last you for long.

Soooo: Budget, use case and whats your currents specs?

Probably looking to spend about £750 ($1000 roughly). My current pc is pretty old using the 1155 CPU Socket type so basically going to be building a whole new system. Case I'm looking to buy is Corsair Carbide 275R.

At the moment I'm thinking of buying

AMD Ryzen 5 3600

Asus ROG B450-F or MSI B450 Tomahawk Max

16gb ram

750w power supply

1tb M2 SSD + 1TB SATA SSD + current 3tb HDD

graphics card not too sure of yet but probably high end Nvidia line

Probably going to go for some water cooling as well.

Thanks for the reply

Soooo AIO or loop? Loop is not in your budget

TOMAHAWK MAX!! Best board for not much OC and not much needs in terms of IO

Make the RAM go 3600Mhz

Why a SATA ssd? Doenst the Max have 2x2.m slots?

There u go my boiiii! Idd go with 5700XT. Makes more sense at the price. Also get the second SSD later and invest in more perf and a quality PSU now.

AIO was thinking of the Corsair H100i pro. My mistake it does actually have 2 M2 slots thanks for that.

Well this AOI is pretty expensive. Here I also recommend running stock cooler and later getting the upgrade. If you want the AIO form the start we'd have to drop down the CPU or GPU

Thanks. Storage is a lot cheaper now especially solid state than when I first built. I was about $150 for 120GB and now a TB is going even cheaper than that

I think I'll just get it later. My budget can stretch a little bit but I'm trying to build a PC which should last for a good while without going overkill.

Did some adjustment

The GPU now is slightly more silent but cheaper. That makes more room for the cooler! And I found the RAM cheaper

Mostly the newest triple A games so will need a decent graphics card. I'd like 4k but don't have a 4k monitor yet so need to save up for one of them.

Then the 5700XT will push serious FPS and do that for some years to come. Especially at 1080p

If aesthetics are not important then just get a Cooler Master Hyper 212(or similar, like be quiet Dark Rock Slim).

Installing that AIO was a nightmare for me. Imo only benefit of any AIO besides 360/420mm one is aesthetics, cooling wise you can get better air coolers, and said air coolers are quieter too(pumps are noisy in an aio).

Also, only point of failure in an air cooler is the fan which you can replace, whereas AIO has multiple points of failure(pump failure, leakage, coolant evaporation etc.)

In general: YES! But at this budget dont get a H212E! Its nice for the price, dont get me wrong... BUT go with a nice Noctua then (there are black ones NF S12U Chromax for example)

THICCCC is also crap! See GN Steves video on it!

The SSD is better than mine, I have to remember its name over the 660p

Case: OP wants a different one

PSU: min is better. See our list. But MWE will also do the trick.

Updated the GPU...Can go with the windforce OC or the pulse models, but they cost $30-40 more.

MWE is pretty much a great unit.

Also formula gold is out of stock pretty much every. Also, I like the modularity of mwe over formula gold, even if the latter one is a tad bit better.

Case is a personal preference and can be swapped.

yeah, h212e works fine, but i'd personally get cryorig h7/dark rock 4 etc, overkill but will be completely silent

Yep AssRock (sorry) is fine but Windoforce and pulse will be a bit more silent. Depends if that is worth the $ to OP

Sure MEW is, but IF OP is able to get a formula he shall get it over the MEW.

Case: wellll ok
