I know that last year they changed how the comments sections work and it is what is now. But I am having some new problems with youtube that I just noticed. Things were fine this morning when I left... I just got online and all the comments wont show up and all the video thumbnials are blank as well as I will go to a video and there will just be a black screen where the video should be and it will be paused and stay paused even if you press play. Has anyone had this happen before? After fiddling around I can sometimes get it to work but it is very random.

I did a lengthy rant on Chrome that was largely provoked by those specific issues you mention, so are you using chrome? Firefox + html5 player on youtube alleviates a lot of the rendering issues but you loose HD playback.

What I recommend is a plugin called youtube control center (it's available for both firefox and chrome but keep reading) AND using (ironically enough) Firefox for youtube. While there's still some occasional hiccups they are few and far in between. Youtube control center you need to use to disable DASH playback and force youtube to cache all of the video. If you have DASH enable (it's on by default with no other way to disable it that I know of but this plugin) youtube tries to dynamically preload only a few seconds in advance regardless of your connection speed but this causes seeking or changing settings in the video to basically crap out and give you rendering issues or even flash crashes. This I found easy to duplicate: your videos won't default to HD so if they load to 360p and you try to manually change to 720p it will either keep spinning and never actually change the resolution (even if your connection it's quite capable of the speed) or crash if you try to force it to change by seeking forward or backwards a few seconds in the video.

Now instead of reloading a video 3 or 4 times to get it to play on HD it works instantly the first time and keeps preloading the video (like in the past).

That is not happening to me at present but what has happened to me fro the past month now is that if i start to play a youtube playlist the volume changes with each song which is VERY frustrating as i have to constantly turn the volume up and down according to the level of any random song.

I have been having issues also.

Normally when this is happening it is either maintenance or YT getting ready to push out a new feature or layout.
