I have an iPad Mini 2 that had been my "retro gamer", with lots of apps that were released several years ago and don't have iOS 11 compatibility, let alone 12. I've found a few different sets of instructions for downgrading it, either using recovery mode or just using a custom image. I can't find Apple's page holding backup images of older iOS versions (and I'm not asking for a third-party link here), so I'm using one I found on a different reputable site. It keeps giving me a "cannot restore this iPad" error. Do I just have a bad image, or is this a common thing?

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
