what do you mean?
btw i think that my i5-7500 can handle the 1080 well, the only difference between the i5-7500 and the i7-7700k is that it has higher ghz than the i5 and it has +2mb cache and its overclockable thats it.

i am gonna get some sleep, good night.

No, the i5-7500 isn't as good as the 7700K. The 7700K has better singlethreaded and multithreaded performance, as well as hyperthreading, on top of having more cache and being overclockable. You'd probably see a bottleneck at 144Hz with a 1080 and an i5-7500, whereas it's not as likely if you had a 7700K.

What I mean is, it can't hurt to redo the thermal paste on your CPU.

Hello people!
My english is not the best.

I will upgrade my gtx 1060 6gb to a 1080 8gb.

So before taking out my 1060 I have to uninstall my nvidia driver then If I take out my 1060 and I put in my 1080. Then if the pc starts up I have to install the newest driver from the Geforce Experience application, right?

But I worry about connecting the pce express to the graphics card. Because my gtx 1060 is connected with a 6PIN Pce express cable, and I have 2PINS just hanging there. So if I put in the 1080 after uninstalling driver and the old card etc. The 1080 has an 8PIN port so if i plug in the older 6 PIN port which was connected to the 1060 and I will be able to connect the remaining 2 PIN connector?

You can plug and play with the 1080, it uses the same drivers as the 1060.

You plug in the 6 pin and the 2 pin connector together, this gives you the 8 pin PCIe plug.

I would't worry about getting rid of the driver. The 1060 and 1080 use the same driver i think.

I would install the new graphics card, and just download the latest drivers from nvidia. I wouldn't worry about uninstalling the old ones unless you run into any issues.

As far as power connectors go, Yes, you need to plug in the extra 2 pins that are just hanging there. It should all work fine.

CPU might struggle a bit in some games, but a 7700K should be able to handle it.

Yeah I know but I’m makin money to get the 1080, after that I would like to buy a 144hz 21:9 monitor because what I own now is a 21:9 but only 60hz :(

After that If i buy a 7700k i have to buy a better cooler.

but do i have to buy a new psu too?

Your PSU should be fine.

Yeah, you'll want to keep that 7700K nice and chilly. I would honestly focus on getting a better CPU after the 1080 before worrying about getting a new monitor.

@Crunchy Dragon

by the way should I re-paste my processor with the thermal paste when I change the gpu?

because i have never touched it ha ha. The current paste is 2.5years old. Should I repaste it too?

Can't hurt.

@Crunchy Dragon

So how should I replace the thermal paste?

just remove the cooler and clean the paste from the cooler with alcohol and paper then remove the paste from the processor with alcohol technique then but a small amount of paste to the cpu. Then put the cooler back and attach its cable to the motherboard. Thats it right?
