So I upgraded to 16GB Corsair LPX Vengeance RAM at 3200MHz. I did the DOCP stuff at the rated speed and voltage. it worked fine for a few hours.

Then I wanted to play music on tidal while i was playing rocket league. and I got the bluescreen with the error message "IRQL_not_less_or_equal.

I ran the windows ram diagnostics proram. It found no problems.

I can't get Memtest86 to run. it just boots into windows. i tried unplugging the boot ssd and it just said to insert a valid boot device. I tried 3 usbs in varying sizes.

I can't get rufus to work either as it doesn't recognize my usb drives. Even if i activate that checkbox.

It only crashed this one time. for now.

What's going on? Do I return the RAM or is it fine?

My system:

AMD R7 2700 at 4.05GHz 1.38V

XFX RX 5700

Asus Prime B450 plus

500GB SSD

Sharkoon WPM600 Bronze PSU

what board are you on and are you on the latest bios? many boards for ryzen 2000 did not support high frequenzy ram with "stock" (first) bios

Curious did you reset the bios before installing the new ram? Sometimes some sub timings get stuck from the training process they could still be related to your old memory.

wait what?

you got your 16 gig from 2x8 or 4x4?

if 4x4 id say either one of your slots or your dimms is dead

if 2x8 i'd guess that a ram chip is dead on one of your dimms

try running your pc with just one dimm at a time and see if it is stable, to rule out bad ram

just a sanity check: do you have the dimms intalled in the correct slots?

If your not OCing the RAM upping the voltage on the DRAM is not the correct measure to take. The kit should beable to do stock speed at stock voltage without issues if your having to up DRAM voltage with no OC then the kit is faulty.

It is possible the IMC (Intergrated memroy controller isn't likeing the timings or speed) That would be where you would want to do a voltage jump on your SOC.

But I bet you got a timing stuck in bios from your old kit.

Using Memtest you usually have to set it to 3500MB and run enough instances to allocate all your memory till task manager is at as close to 100% memory usage as possible then let it run till you hit 300-400% coverage.

it's 2x 8GB installed in slot 2 and 4.

i mean it ran at 3200MHz at 1.35V fine for 4 hours.

i'll test with single sticks now. in the 2 slot?

ok i tried both sticks by themselves. both work. i ran a cpu stresstest to put "some" load on them.

no errors.

so next step would be a bios reset. will i have to enter my cpu overclock again?

and all my fancurves. i'm sorry but i'll do that only if it happens again.

i don't know

Yes, but while troubleshooting it would be best to leave it at stock just to eliminate extra variables.

Try memtest in windows again set to 3500MB per instance, if that shows an error screenshot it and post.
