What thermal paste for laptop?

galaxyrooter

Dell XPS 15 9550

i5 6300hq

GTX 960m

Didnt receive the laptop yet, its on my way, but ive read that its notorious for thermal problems like high temps and throttling.

My plan is repasting and undervolting, which is something ive never done before. What thermal paste do you guys recommend, ive seen people talk about:
1. Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut

2. Arctic Silver 5

3. Arctic MX-4

I need the best performance I can get from this CPU and GPU as Im coming from a better desktop

Option 1 is definitely best (and most expensive) , other two are decent as well. You can also look at noctua tp

I would go with thermal grizzly kryonaut or IC Graphite pads (<What I use).

I have a similar laptop to that but with i7 6700hq and GTX 960m and im going to guess dell isn't going to let you undervolt. No option in bios and intel software the option is locked out.

Ive seen people that many have undervolted their 9550... probably with XTU

I will second the IC Graphite pads. I have pretty much transitioned to only using those for all my builds. Super easy

The Daily Driver:
AMD Ryzen 7 3700x  |  EVGA GTX 1070 SC  |  48GB Crucial Ballistix Elite DDR4-3600  | Corsair 750D Case
AsRock X570 Pro 4 mobo

iRacing Sim Rig:

i5-10600k @ 5.0 GHz  |  EVGA GTX 1080ti Hybrid  | 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600  |  Corsair Air 540 Case
ASUS Z490-E ROG Strix mobo

Is the price/performance ratio really that better in the Kryonaut than these 2?

Ive checked the pricing of the thermal pads, seems like these IC pads are double the price of Kryonaut.. so thats out.

Yea I used XTU no dice voltage control was locked out. I had a buddy trying to work on a custom bios but couldn't get some stuff working properly so never was able to do any voltage control.

Might be a inspirion vs XPS thing maybe. I was able to OC the gpu no issue and mess with turbo timings for the cpu in XTU but never able to change voltage. I had alot of thermal headroom so it didn't really bother me but battery life would have been a bit better.

Yes I’m still using 3570k but using hyper 212 black and noctua paste , which I replace every half a year. I strongly advise to have a look on that paste, must be crispy after that long time ?
