i have having a hard time finding out what is causing my system crashes when playing Age of Empires Definitive Edirtion

to me this inst normal, in regards to system crashes, that its not the blue screen from Microsoft, but more like a hard system crash, i hear a buzzing sound coming from the external tv speakers from a NEC 42in Display Monitor,
i have a three screen set up, a Acer 1080p on the left a B286HK 4k monitor in the middle and the NEC 42in 1080p Display Monotior on the right for Netflix and hulu, but when the system crashes i get that buzzing sound, and the two outside screens turn like the blue screen of death from windows, but no words and the middle screen is blank, and i cant hit the reset button on the tower i have to hard press the power button to reset the system, WTF Age of Empires barely make a dent in the system i am playing the game at 4k but even then that not maxing out the GPU like less than 60% at 30fps cuz its that kind of game where fps doesnt matter cuz your sitting in your ass for hours on end, this doesnt happen with hulu just this damn game

system specs

X99-ud3

5960x @ 4.3ghz xmp

4x4gb ddr4 OC to 2400mhz

vega 64 AIO

500gb nvme Samsung 970 Pro on an adapter since the m.2 is only Pcie gen 2 x 2 lanes

3x10tb HDD in Raid 5

Greetings tjrose91,

Are you able to check your temperatures using a utility like Open Hadware Monitor? (https://openhardwaremonitor.org/)

Do you regularly use this machine with intensive loads such as gaming or video editing?

Dial everything back to stock. Then re-test and report back. I'm going to put good odds that you won't have any issues.

temps are fine, did a one hour video edit and cpu didnt crash, and when playing the game it b

arely hits a load on the GPU or CPU remeber this game is remastered from the 1990s, and this happens with another game on Dishonored 2 have to play on stock GPU settings otherwise the gpu soft crashes and goes back to desktop, but im wondering what makes the system hard crash on a low speced gamed that even hitting the reset button doesnt work

Thank you for checking the temps. I did find some information regarding Age of Empires II, though not your specific version (https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/high-cpu-usage-in-age-of-empires-2-hd.2330586/). That version of the game is reported there to always utilize 100% of your CPU. If the remastered version is programmed similarly, it may explain a scenario where an older game is more demanding than a newer one.

Considering that, it may be possible that your CPU specifically is having issues under load. Just to be thorough, are you able to provoke a crash using a very CPU intensive test like Prime95? (https://www.mersenne.org/download/) This might at least narrow it down between the GPU or the CPU, as this is trying to provoke a crash with almost no GPU usage.

it started crashing on desktop lol never had this issue before the NVME drive, but i am using an adapter to to fit in a PCI-E four slot as a boot drive, since the original M.2 drive on the motherboard is only Gen2x2 and now with the adapter its Pci-E Gen3 x4
