So I just found my old Galaxy S4 and apparently it has a lock screen pin set on it.

I have absolutely no idea what it could be, I don't even remember using a pin, I normally just use the swipe pattern.

Is there a way remove the pin, or recover the files off it before I factory reset?

Since it's been a few years since I've used it, I've been signed out of my Google and Samsung accounts so removing the pin from Find my Device is not possible, it's also not popping up with the option to reset by signing into Google.

I had ADB enabled on it, but because I can't unlock it, I can't authorise it to remove it that way!

Heh.  You will receive no help on breaking encryption here.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
