3700x running hot

Go to solution Solved by Juular,

That's normal for this cooler, it isn't much better than stock one to start with. Nothing to worry about if you're not running stress tests 24\7.

Hi!

My 3700x runs around 50c with jumps to 60c when I'm just surfing the internet or chatting in Steam.

In Cinebench r20 temperatures were around 72c and in prime95 it takes 7 minutes before my cpu hits 90c and starts throttling.

I'm using Noctua U12S and Fractal Design R6 with fans that came with it. The fans are in their standard settings so they ramp up at the 70c mark.

I already tried to reapply the termal paste, but it didn't help much.

Try updating your BIOS to the latest version and disabling PBO or any other auto-OC features your motherboard might have. If these don't help, you could try manually undervolting your CPU.

The cpu turbo voltage is 1.5v so no existence coolers can handle 1.5v heat from 7nm chiplet.

you actually have it backwards. At idle, the 3700x sits between 1.4-1.5v and under full load it drops down into the 1.1v range.
