So i have the simple question which is should i get myself a better CPU cooler or just more airflow.

To be more specific the things i have right now are that for my CPU cooler i have the wraith stealth that came with my Ryzen 5 2600 and for airflow i have is one intake fan that is a OEM 92mm AOC fan that gets loud as fuck when it ramps up, for the airflow thing i have one thing that will eventually come to frutition which is 2 noctua 120mm fans that im bying off a family member for like 5€ each.

I've been kind of on the fence about getting a new cpu cooler but i got a new GPU to replace the old one which was a blower style which is why i didnt feel like getting a new cpu cooler because it stayed cool engough but since i got the new GPU which is a traditional style of cooler which heats up the case more and causes the cpu to get to the temperature which ramps the fans up to 100% and then sounding like a goddamn jet engine which is really annoying.

If the answer i get says i should get a new CPU cooler i would appreciate ny suggestions but i've been eyeing the Noctua U12S for AM4 but as i said i will appreciate any suggestions that i get.

For any typos i do apologize because english is not my first langugae.

The clue is the “one fan that gets loud as fuck”.  You have a case heat issue.  You need more case fans.

You might need a different cooler as well but the biggest cooler in the world won’t solve your case heat issue.  More airflow first and re-evaluate.  On the bright side it’s cheaper.  Case fans don’t need fancy bearings as long as they’re vertical.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Ok i was wondering since i read in another thread on this forum that a bigger cpu cooler would work better in a low airflow case, is this not true?

Also a thing i forgot to mention which i probably should have remembered to add is that i have one 120mm fan as an exhaust in the back of the case, also the fans im gonna get from the family member has the problem of i dont know when i will get them since we dont live close to eachother and i dont have a car.

Edit: realized that it would probably be useful to link my case, also the one 120mm fan i mentioned before in this is the one that came with this case.

Cheap fans are cheap.  It may not be worth the gas to make the trip.

Both right I suspect.

A more powerful cooler can help in a confined case, but this is a low airflow case.  It may also be a confined case.  Also if they were talking watercoolers they attach to the case and have fans so they’re effectively case fans as well.

Agree to that, your system definitely suffers from lack of airflow. @yeehaw But what’s worrying me is that you said 92mm oem fan in front, what case you have? Don’t sounds like any standard case using anymore 92mm fans, specially in the front. You may need to replace that case imo

My case is a standard case and i linked it in the previous reply the front fan places just are made in a way which allows me to put basically any type of fan that is not over 120mm.

Sorry for not linking my case.

Sorry for not linking my case.

I prescribe 3 120mm cheapass Sleeve bearing fans with pwm headers.  2 in front one in back. They won’t last forever or be the quietest things ever, but they’re really cheap.  A few bucks apiece.

The fans are noctua fans from a D-15 cooler so they should be okay or am i mistaken, sorry for not being specifc once again.

The thread i was talking was indeed talking about watercoolers, so i guess that isnt relevant then.

This case you got have quite few obstructions in front of fans (hdd cages). Noctua have great fans, if not them get something like that

they cheap but decent (2 in front one in back)

Noctua are really good quiet long life fans that will work well in any position, very unlike the sleeve bearing fans I mentioned.  I was under the impression that getting those was a PITA though.  If you’ve got nocturas use them.  Their only issue is they cost $10-20 a piece.

Yeah they are going to take a moment for me to get my hands on but i know i can get them from the family member i've illuded to for like 5€ per fan, which is a good price since they go for around 20€ new where i live and they should be in almost new condition.

But i'am still wondering would me getting a better CPU cooler before i get the fans from the family member give me any better thermals or is it just a way better idea for me to just wait for them and after getting those look at the temps again and then consider about getting it?

Also just to add if im getting new cpu cooler ill probably get the Noctua U12-SE-AM4.

Additional note:

noctura d15 is also a truly bangin cooler.  As powerful as a good 240mm AIO and quieter.  The only problem with it is it’s huge and expensive (less so than the 240mm watercoolers it competes with)

From what i understood the cooler itself is fucked but the fans were alright and even if it wasnt fucked i couldnt use it since my case has a max cpu cooler height of 158mm and the D15 is 160mm from what i could find on the internet.

I've used Antec fans for years.  They're silence and never fail me.

The ones with the LLS bearing?  I’ve always wondered about those.  Specifically how do they work horizontal?  The s in LLS is sleeve, so i shied away.  The thing is though that a noctua FDB is really a type of sleeve bearing too. A modified rifled sleeve.  LLS came out long ago as a competitor to noctua.  There’s a chance they are sleeve with bs added and will wear and get loud if used non vertically, but if they’re NOT they’re just a cheaper noctua.

Kinda hard to break those.  The heat pipes would have to be punctured, the fins would have to be mangled, or the plate would have to be marred or uneven.

I got these....The Antec TriCool Fans 120mm and 80mm.  I had them since 2010.  I set the fan speeds to high on all with the manual control switch.  And those fans are quite quiet.  The 80mm fan sits ontop on my CPU.  I should of gotten a 120mm but the 80mm is still working.  No need to replace it until it dies.

As for being horizontally mounted?  No issues.  The only issue I'm having is with the original NZXT 120mm fan.  That one is about to die soon.

I dont know how or if he managed to break it but the fact that matters is that the fans are apparently ok, even if it wasnt broken i couldnt use it since it is too big.

Maybe take a peek at it when you go.  There’s a decent chance it’s alright if it isn’t too messed up. If the copper pipes aren’t linked and have holes and the plate that connects to the cpu looks alright it may still be usable.  If the plate has problems it can be lapped back into flatness.  If the mounting screw holes are stripped they can be retapped.  If the fins are messed up an air conditioner comb of the right size can straighten them.  If the pipes are punctured it’s dead.

It doesn't tell you which kind of bearings...I just found my Antec Fan 120mm packaging I'll take a pic of it.

Believe me if i could i would use it but the problem still is that its is too tall for my case and also one thing which isnt too big is that it does not have the AM4 mounting bracket.

I might be willing to buy it off him if the pipes are ok. I’ve been hanging about here mostly to find out what kind of rig I was going to need to build (I’ve got an old haswell k system that may see the end soon) there’s a non zero chance that I could get away with just a new GPU, but it will probably be a Navi20 which means loud blower case.  I could use it to mod a gpu even if I wind up doing a whole new rig.

I'am assuming that you think i live somewhere in america where you seem to be from but both i and owner of the cooler live in Finland so i'm pretty sure it wouldnt be worth it to buy and ship it.
