Hey everyone,

 

Just to warn you, this is really dumb...

 

Last night I was attempting to play an oculus VR game and realized there was no sound. So, I backed out of the game and confirmed by sound settings were correct and the volume was turned up. Even after several attempts playing with the audio settings (and some cursing) there was absolutely no sound in the headset. Finally after rebooting, the sound worked, but there was no display in the goggles. What the heck...

 

I realized that I had an xbox one controller plugged in a usb port, so I disconnected it. Like magic, everything worked again.

 

How would an xbox controller cause this anomaly?

It acts as a USB audio device for the headset, Windows defaults to it when it's plugged in

But an xbox controller doesn't have a mic, does it?

Yupp, headset connector has 2 channel audio and a mic

I bought a xbox one about 3 years ago and used it maybe a dozen times. My wife mainly uses it...I guess I never came to the realization it has its own built in mic...LOL

 

That makes sense now. Thanks for confirming my PC isn't cursed

Oh it may still be cursed, just isn't causing audio issues
