Hello,

I am not sure if I should post this here, in offtopic or somewhere else entirely, so if I chose wrong, please move it to the proper section of the forums.

What I want to ask is if there are any guidelines on how mods affect Steam games VAC and achievements.

What I am curious about are not any "hack" mods or something like that, but for the 99% stuff like better graphics, audio, etc.

Is there any difference between different games on Steam and any difference between using mods that are downloadable within the steam store vs fully third party ones?

Like say, I download better graphics mod for RPG on Steam vs me downloading fully 3rd party graphics mod for my Steam game, is there any difference?

So as I said before, are there any guidelines about this or should I google/ask on steam forums for every single game and every single mod for it separately?

It depends on the application and how it tolerates mods. Some games will block achievements if you use mods, but graphics mods like ReShade are generally allowed. Anti-cheat mechanisms tend to scan the system for using cheat tools or look for signs that something is off.

If you want to play it safe, just don't mod games that have an extensive anti-cheat system.
