Thermal paste in the socket

Just got this used computer.

At first it seemed to run just fine, but when i tried to open up a game it would just turn of.

I have tried 2 GPU's and 2 PSU's, so i took it apart to try and find a solution when i saw this. Could the thermal paste in the socket be my problem?

Might be depending on what type of thermal paste it was. You could always try cleaning it out with rubbing alcohol. I would use the 99% stuff though(might have to ask for it since where I am it's always behind the counter). Also since it only acted up when you loaded up a game it could be something else causing the issue like the gpu or psu still.

I thought it was the GPU or PSU to, that is why i tried with both the psu and gpu from my main computer, which i know works and i still have the same problem with this one

Well cleaning out the thermal paste is worth a shot if it's non-conductive it might be insulating some pins. If the issue still happens could be something wrong with the board like power delivery or something.

If anything, its insulating those pins. It looks like standard thermalpaste, its not liquid metal or anything like that.

I'd clean out every pin hole, make sure its all cleaned out, and try again. Also, make sure you're not overheating in general. Anyone that bad on CPU paste probably made mistakes elsewhere.
