Hi guys,

Just need your experienced opinions on what's happening with my system. It's my first build, a ryzen 2400G on an ASUS B450M-A mobo, and i've got a deepcool gammaxx 120mm AIO with the rad attached to the rear of the case and the fan pushing air through the rad out of the rear of the case.  I'm using ASUS' own AI Suite software to check and it's showing my CPU temp hovering around high 40s to low-to-mid 50°C... at idle (I've attached a screenshot of the AI suite window).

I read somewhere (don't remember where) that ASUS has its own built in presets that kind of "overclocks" your system for you, i'm not sure.  I'm still quite a newbie in terms of building and configuring your own rigs and a lot of the settings in the bios are still quite jargon to me so i don't tinker with it a lot.

Do you think my cpu temp, as it is, is normal?  I mean just in terms of the actual °C it does seem ok, but at idle?  I live in the tropics (i'm from the philippines) and around this time the "ambient" room temp is probably around the low to mid 30°C. That's why i replaced the stock wraith cooler with an AIO because i'm hoping the liquid (particularly the coolant) in the AIO would provide better cooling.

I'd appreciate any suggestions and opinions.

Thank you and sorry if the post seems long.

No, that CPU temp is really high for idle. Did you make sure that there's a thermal compound between your cpu and AIO block? In otherwords, was there a pre-applied thermal pad, an included but not pre-applied thermal pad, or your own thermal paste that you used before mounting the AIO block on the CPU?

Idle temps don't mean much, unless it's incredibly high (50c is not). What are you load temps?

Also, 120mm AIOs are probably worse than a hyper 212, and that orientation is using hot air to cool the water in the rad.

@TOdom, the AIO kit included a thermal paste but i didn't use and instead used a deepcool z3 paste which i had bought before (and had already used on my old PC).  Now that you mentioned it, do you think the included thermal paste in the AIO miight provide better "heat conduction" since it technically is designed specifically for that AIO?

@Mister Woof during games (e.g. shadow of the tomb raider), i think the highest that it went (that i noticed) was maybe around mid 60s to about 70C.  But since i don't have a video card, the game is utilizing the built-in vega graphics in the cpu.  Also, you mentioned that my orientation for the AIO is not optimal?  How should i set it up better?

I have 3x120mm fans in the front of the case pulling cool air in, a meshed top with room for 2x120mm fans (but i only installed one 120mm as an exhaust because the space for the other 120mm is partially blocked by the top part of the rad.

By the way, the 3x120mm fans at the front as well as the fan attached to the rad are all PWM and is set to adjust based on CPU temp.  The top (exhaust) fan is on DC and directly powered by a molex (i.e. it's not connected/controlled by my mobo).

Guys, thank you so much for the inputs so far.  I really appreciate it.

Thanks again for the input @Mister Woof.

Though, just an update.  I "re-built" my system:  added another fan on the rad to make it now a push-pull config. cleaned the AIO pump and reapplied the thermal paste it came with, turned my psu over so that it's now its own "thermal ecosystem" instead of having its fan inside the case sucking out air from inside the case.

Anyways, it's now "better".  I'm now idling in the high 30s to around mid 40C.

Thanks again for the inputs guys.
