144hz monitor running at 59/60hz via HDMI

fun_two

I have a Acer Nitro 5 with GTX1650 and 16GB RAM. That's connected to a Dell gaming monitor via HDMI. What cable would I need to get 144hz up and running?

Would I need a dock or something?

You need to use DisplayPort, G-Sync monitors are limited to 60 Hz over HDMI.

Would you recommend a HDMI to displayport cable? I tried that, there was no display signal to the monitor. The USB-C (dont know if it's thunderbolt), could that be used in some way for a display?

Nope, doesn't seem like the USB-C port supports video out on that machine.

So what would you all recommend? To get a 60Hz monitor for now? Till I decide to upgrade my laptop?

Or a monitor that does support 1440p144 on HDMI, which requires HDMI 2.0.

This one has an HDMI 1.4 port so no chance. You can continue running it, just you'll be limited to 60Hz.

HDMI 1.4 can do 1080p at 120Hz but I don't know if the G-Sync module supports that, the post above suggests it doesn't.
