Wireless keyboard connectivity problem

I just bought HP Pavilion 600 Wireless keyboard. When I plug the receiver into the back of the computer, keyboard sometimes loses connection and for example Word document skips many letters or lags very badly. Distance is about half a meter (2 feet).

When I plug the receiver in front of the computer case it seems like connection is better. However when I turn my back to the computer with keyboard in my lap it again loses connection.

I'm no expert but shouldn't RF signal travel easily trough non metal objects on such a short distance? I have no previous experience with wireless peripherals so please advise me if I should return it to the store? Thanks in advance.

It’s RF but it’s unlicensed RF.  Stuff so weak the FCC doesn’t care about it.  Plus it’s pretty high freq.  you’re a big bag of water as far as radio is concerned.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
