Hey all,

I just returned home from a trip, and when I tried to plug in a cable to charge my phone, my whole computer just shut off.  I was immediately concerned because the room in which my PC is in is both extremely cold (~50F) and carpeted, so that means that whenever I try and turn it on I slightly zap myself and the computer. However, I made sure to ground myself by touching another part of the case (not near any buttons or ports, and near the psu), and hit the power on button. It turned on fine, and I plugged in my phone before signing onto windows and logging in (maybe that did something?) and it shut down. I waited for a minute or two, grounded myself again, and turned on the computer. I got through the log-in and then it just froze, and I couldn't turn it off through windows so I was forced to do a hard shutdown. I turned it on (after waiting) and everything ran perfectly fine! I ran some Norton scans because I was away from my computer for a while, and then when I tried to plug it in again it shut down. What do I do? Is there something wrong with the I/O on the case? It's important to note that I built this computer myself, and I'm not sure if the case has a warranty. Anyways, this happened for the first time, but its not the first time something LIKE this has happened.

Again, my room is carpeted, so sometimes I click the power button and it zaps me, turning it on, then off again. I then ground myself, because my carpet is pretty shaggy, and it says that I installed a new CPU and takes me through the BIOS again. Pretty weird. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what is happening, whether it's a dead USB 3.0 or me shocking the computer.

Thanks.

you should ground yourself by touching the wall not the pc case.
