So this seems like a minor issue but I'm curious and just wonder what's causing it.

I am currently using a ASRock B450M  PRO4 Mobo with Team T-FORCE VULCAN Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory.  The memory is currently slotted in slots 1 and 3 and is clocked at 3200 as we speak.  It's also worth mentioning that I also am using a Ryzen 5 2600 (stock, No OC), And I know they can be particular about RAM.

However, getting into my BIOS at times can be a bit annoying as it sometimes causes the OC to fail when prompted to save and reboot.  It will cycle the power about 3 times and then go back to stock 2400 instead of 3200.

Now it only does this with 3200, if I pick 3000 it always boots with zero issues at all.  The fail rate is random but always just requires 1-3 attempts before it accepts the 3200.   The XMP profile is ok and it is running at 1.35v.

Not sure what could be causing it but I am very curious.  I sometimes wonder if maybe my MOBO has some issues?  It's currently on the 3.6 BIOS which is stated to have some compatibly issues with my current Processor.  In my defense however, I am new at building my own PC and simply used the install disc which prompted that set of bios to be installed.

Unstable overclock?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Ugh.  And it’s 3200 out of the box, yes?  Or is the 3000 also an overclock, just a smaller one?

Yep it's stated to be 3200 out of the box. It worked at 3200 with no issues the first time I put on the XMP profile.   It's just going into the BIOS that seems to mess with it.   It also did have that issue once as well when my video card had issues with an Auto Overclock via AMD Adrenaline 2020, but reset back after just 2 attempts.

Hmm... weird half a thought that might not be even the case.  Maybe your machine is recognizing the memory as different memory.  There’s this table that motherboard makers use for tested “approved” memory types.  It’s got a 3 letter acronym name.  I forget what it is.  They sometimes test particular types of memory and set timings for that brand.  Might have something to do with that.  There’s probably a better answer.

Yeah I saw that board and glossed it over.  I kinda had a hard time figuring it out a bit but alot of the Team Series RAM is compatible, PCPartPicker didn't flag it as an issue as well

It's why I am wondering if maybe the 3.60 BIOS is messing with it. ASRocks website mentions that Pinnacle Ridge processers aren't meant for that version of the BIOS, but their own auto installer is the one that put them there.   Aside from the memory issue I have no CPU issues, in fact the CPU runs great!

Pcpartpicker has issues.  It tends to be out of date to one degree or another.  It doesn’t think 7.1 surround exists for computers for one thing.

It also thinks the alfoncool atlas can’t be had with an am4 adapter which is also untrue.

One thing I forgot to mention.  Regarding the 3.60 BIOS,  I did attempt to email ASRock regarding it and potential future issues, twice.   Never got emailed back, their customer support is next to non existent.

Hmm didn't know PCpartpicker is out of date to that degree.   I'll try to look a bit more into the memory then.  If new memory is all I need, then that can be done easily enough.

Thankfully as I mentioned, the RAM once OC is stable and stays that way.  Games run well, CPUZ and Task manager both state it's running at the designated speed, and it doesn't just bork on me out of no where.

Hopefully I can figure it out soon enough or better yet, ASRock can put out some new drivers I can actually use. They haven't put out BIOS updates for Pinnacle Ridge, Raven and a few other Processor types for a bit now

They recently put out a 3.90 BIOS but it's again not Pinnacle Ridge.

Well it is Christmas.  Perhaps someone will contact you.
