Is my motherboard too old for this graphics card??

TimmyTwoShoes

Hey all,

I’ve been trying to upgrade the hardware on my girlfriends kid’s computer for Xmas. Running into some problems though. I bought a MSI Radeon R9 380 gaming 4g GPU off eBay. When I try to install it, I get no display on screen. I’ve messed around with safe mode a bit and tried to disable onboard graphics, but that doesn’t work either. Basically every time I give power to the gpu the system gives me a black screen. Sort of like it’s not detecting anything, but it doesn’t tell me it isn’t detecting anything.

The computer is a 2011 Dell XPS 8300. It’s older, but I feel like it should be able to handle this graphics card. It’s only a 460w PSU. Could this be the problem?

any help is appreciated thanks

Is the power cable connected to the GPU?
Is the monitor connected to the GPU?

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!
