Thinking about upgrading from my 1660 Ti

TheHammer82

About a month ago I put together my first PC using the these components. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/The_Hammer/builds/#view=GB29TW

Overall I’m happy with everything except the performance of 1660 Ti, specifically when playing RDR2. I can get ~60 fps at 1080p on mostly high settings but it will still dip into the 40s at times. The GPU sits at 98-99% usage and the CPU ~30% so I know the GPU is what’s holding it back.

I’m not sure if I should hang on to the 1660 Ti and wait for Nvidia to drop new cards this summer or sell it and get something like a 2060 Super. I’m still new to all of this and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try RDR2 with SMP disabled?

I have not as I didn’t know that was a thing until now lol.

For the record I’m a 37 year old diesel mechanic who just got into building PCs so I still have much to learn.

SMT (Threads, P is Processing, to be precise)  allows multi-threading for this cpu (2 threads per core) which is sometimes not that effective in games. It can be enabled/disabled in bios at least.

Or you could try to reduce water-physics capabilites.
