Hi LLT.

I'm helping a friend put together a system.

Basically I got a asrock B360 Fatal1ty Gaming 4k board and an i5-9400F.

Is there a way for us to check what BIOS the mobo has pre-installed without installing a 8th gen CPU first?
Or can we update the BIOS without having to install a 8th gen CPU first?

Cheers!

It's already 9th gen compatible.

Pretty hard to check bios version in bios, if you can't boot. You need P3.20: https://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/Fatal1ty B360 Gaming K4/index.asp#CPU

If your lucky it says which bios version directly on the box.

CPU: Ryzen 5800X3D | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Elite V2 | RAM: G.Skill Aegis 2x16gb 3200 @3600mhz | PSU: EVGA SuperNova 750 G3 | Monitor: LG 27GL850-B , Samsung C27HG70 |
GPU: Red Devil RX 7900XT | Sound: Odac + Fiio E09K | Case: Fractal Design R6 TG Blackout |Storage: MP510 960gb and 860 Evo 500gb | Cooling: CPU: Alphacool ST30 420mm rad, Alphacool CPU and GPU Core LT and Core blocks, D5 pump and res combo

it doesn't have 9th gen compatible with the first BIOS, so there's a chance he gets old stock.

Yes this is pretty likely since B365 is out.

B365 was made to help out with shortages on 14nm and B360 chipsets are still being made IIRC, so it's not likely to be old stock.
