is there a way to run linux in a vm and have it able to connect and browse the internet..... but not have windows 10 able to connect to the internet? Like just not install the network drivers in windows 10 but do install them in linux?

Just trying to come up with a setup that would allow me to have some sort of possibility of using windows 10. I'd like to avoid using two whole computers as currently that seems like my only option. I'd have to run one air gapped windows 10 machine with a dedicated linux machine for accessing the internet.

I guess windows 10 would be running the vm , and i dont know

Do you have pro? Go enable hyper-v, then you can easily change the virtual switch settings so the host doesn't have network.

But why disable network? It shouldn't cause an issue.

no basically i need none of windows able to access the network not just a vm of it.

I can't think of a reason it needs any form of internet access

Is dual booting Linux an option?

I only need one just to run browsers.

Security updates? You shouldn't run a hypervisor without updates.

But why use windows 10 as a hypervisor? Might as well have linux as a the host, or use the free windows hyper-v server if you just need a windows hypervisor.

since win 10 doesn't have dda enabled in hyper-v, you need to have the host manage the network, but you can set it up so that windows and the programs don't have network.

so Im getting the feeling that just two machines might be easier.

There are still exploits, also there is still network going through it cause the vm needs network. And there there is possible issues with the guest messing with the host.

I think it will work find with one system, but IDK why you want the host to have no network on the host.

Why do you want to run windows on the host if your not using it?

Why would anyone use windows as the host? Why not use a windows vm on a linux host? This way would be easier to configure. Besides, there is about nothing windows has that linux hasn't.

while i'm honored to get your first post I dare you to run after effects in a vm and see just how snappy and responsive it is with a 4k project taking up 32gb of ram.
