hello guys.

I just located a long lasting problem with my pc bluescreening a lot thought it was windows and it wasn't.

turnt out I had one faulty ram stick, one month after warrenty ran out, hmmmm

wanted to know if it would be possible to buy a new 8 gig kit and still use the functioning 4 gig stick.

PC specs.3570k, asus p8z77m pro, 8gb corsair vengence 1600MHz, XFX 550w, seagate barracuda 1TB, MSI 660ti, cooler master k350, cooler master hyper tx3 evo.

Not recommended if the ram isn't the same, but you can do it. Even if you buy different frequency RAM, your PC will run as fast as the fastest freq on the slowest ram. Also try and find ram with similar timings please :D

just thougt of getting one four gig stick and calling it a day but can the stick be another brand but the same voltage speed and latency

4 passes is good enough to call it stable imo. I see people doing 5 passes in 5 and a half hours but when I did mine overnight I don't think I got through that many passes somehow.

you definitely can use different brands/speeds of ram in the same system, it will just not perform as well as if you had a matched set. It is also possible that you could run into compatibility issues too. Just some things to keep in mind.

Case: Phanteks Evolve X with ITX mount  cpu: Ryzen 3900X 4.35ghz all cores Motherboard: MSI X570 Unify gpu: EVGA 1070 SC  psu: Phanteks revolt x 1200W Memory: 64GB Kingston Hyper X oc'd to 3600mhz ssd: Sabrent Rocket 4.0 1TB ITX System CPU: 4670k  Motherboard: some cheap asus h87 Ram: 16gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello, I have a question that's been bugging my mind for a long time. I (stupidly) bought the RAM that i currently have in my rig when I built it. They are a pair of 4GB Patriot VIPER DDR3 2133Mhz. Now I want to expand the ram to 16GB but I cannot do it 1st because they're nowhere to be found and 2nd because the other good (or bad) brands are a liver worth price (over here in Argentina almost every tech thing is stupidly way overpriced). The thing is that I own a pair of 4GB Kingston HyperX sticks but different speed, timing and voltage than the Patriots. Can I use them or I can't use them at all ? I'll leave the specs of the RAMs. Can anyone help me? Thanks and sorry for my bad english :P
