Can I trust DLINK tech support?

I sent them support ticket about month ago, I wanted to check for new firmware for my Dlink DIR-501 router, because I had some issues with packet prioritization. This is what they sent me in email:

Dear kuca, Your Case 1081107 has been closed. You can review your case details on our support portal at http://www.dlink.eu/support/ssplogin.html Product Information----------------------------------------Product: DIR-501/E, D-Link Wireless N 150 RouterSerial Number: PVZP1C1013195 Please do not attempt to reply to this email, as this is an automated email response. Kind Regards D-Link Support Team

I already stated that my router is DIR-501, and even typed right serial number of my router. And they answer me with

Thank you for opening a new case number 1081107 from the portal D-Link. The last firmware for your Hardware Revision is 1.07:ftp://ftp.dlink.eu/Products/dir/dir-505/driver_software/DIR-505_fw_revA1A2_1-07b18_all_en_20131031.zip Dlink

As you can see they linked me DIR-505 Router firmware. So I don't know will this work with my DIR-501. What if I update the firmware and it gets broken? Help please

I would not try and update to that firmware, write back to them to make sure that they havn't made a mistake. If you look at the D-Link website there doesn't seem to be any firmware updates released for the DIR-501, http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DIR-501

With such a low end router you shouldn't be surprised that there are no software updates. If you continue having issues with your router I would suggest that you buy a new one.
