Cheap Quad Core

I'm trying to build a decent cheap gaming rig and I need at least a quad core. I've been looking at the i3-9100f or the Ryzen 3 2200g, I'm just not sure what to pick. If you have any opinions on either cpu please help me out along with possibly other hardware choices for my system.

reasons for a quad core? You can get an R5 2600 for $30 more than that i3, or the same price if you bought a used R5 1600/2600 or maybe even a 1700/1700X.

If you're set on a quad core, what GPU are you running? 9100F will be better on single core than the 2200G, if you have no GPU or a GPU at the same level/slower than a GT 1030, then go for the 2200G and no GPU (its GPU is about GT 1030 level perf with 3000Mhz or so RAM).

I'm running a 1050ti 4x from msi but might upgrade later down the line. Also, quad core is a minumum, if there is a good deal on a 6 core then I'll take it. I have looked into the r5 1600 a little bit too.

If you are considering buying either of those for their USD values and are running a dGPU, do yourself a favor and skip both of those and get a Ryzen 5 1600 used instead, or a cheap Ryzen 5 2600.

You can thank me later by not making a thread in a year asking what i7 to upgrade your 4 core to, because games are struggling.

R5 2600 for $119: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B41WS48?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1

Hella fine hexacore, good for pretty much everything but high refresh rate gaming, which you won't get with a 1050 Ti anyways. I've ran the R5 1600 with up to a GTX 1080 with no issues, the 2600 is slightly faster and has better RAM compatibility.

^^^ Indeed. Quad cores are fine for office PCs, builds for playing older (pre-2016 or so) titles becuz nostalgia, or the most budget of budget builds. Considering you can get a hexacore for only slightly more though, can't really recommend one unless you're on a shoestring budget.
