Suggestions for build?

waterjug

I helped my friend put together a pcpartpicker list for his computer.

Any thoughts or suggestions on the build? He's on a budget so I'm trying to get most bang for buck.

I'd get a bit faster RAM, and maybe a 500GB SSD from a different company instead, samsung SSDs are comparatively expensive.

also i have that case its neat

Specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen R7 3700X @4.4Ghz, GPU: Gigabyte RX 5700 XT, RAM: 32 GB (2x 8GB Trident Z Royal + 2x 8GB TForce Vulkan Z) @3000Mhz, Motherboard: ASRock B550m Steel Legend, Storage: 1x WD Black 1Tb NVMe (boot) + 1x Samsung 860 QVO 1Tb SSD (storage), Case: Thermaltake Core V21, Cooler: Noctua NH-D15

what ram do you actually recommend tho?

eh probably at least 3000Mhz, CL16. specific brand doesn't matter really, just get one of the cheaper ones since you're on a tighter budget.

A $60 motherboard is bottom of the barrel component.

Its really worth spending more on a good motherboard then going straight to the bottom of the barrel with a $60 motherboard.

Even a $105 mobo you will be far better off, but going to $135-$150 you would be best to aim for that!

Save your money for a good motherboard, 4gb of ram to cheap out, but 8gb is normal. cheap out on case.

You can upgrade later!

Here is a $130 board, asus prime x570-p

asus tuf gaming x570-plus $160

yea the case is most definitely being cheaped out on. thanks for the suggestion.

edit: also what are the benefits of a more expensive board? @amdorintel

here are some mobo's to look at that are very good for around $100, light years ahead of the bottom of the barrel mobo's, and atleast with the $100 range you can upgrade your cpu later.

list below from the video from bullzoids am4 roundup.

msi b450m gaming plus $95

has bios flashback, can use 64gb ram, stuck with light bios but its good

msi b450 gaming plus max $100

this is a supreme choice mobo for the value

downgrades vrm cooling from tomoahawk max, solid choice

^that board is the same as msib450-a pro max, but get the gaming plus for $100

msu b450 tomahawk max $114

support for ryzen 3rd gen right out of box

better choice then asus rog strix b450-f gaming (vrm not great, heat sink is somewhat solid, no bios flashback)

msi b450i gaming plus ac $120

60a power stages, 6 phase vrm

maybe 3900x/3950x depends on airflow, heat sink is anemic

gigabyte b450 i aurus pro wifi $120

viable for apus and 6 core

has 4+2 phase vrm

could even do stock (no oc) 8 core

from there they go to $130

If I wanted to do something like this, but spend more on a GPU now, so upgrading down the line would hopefully just mean a new CPU, would you recommend?

I have been using Windows 10 without activating it and it works fine.

something kinda like this,  I have and old HDD i would be using so dont need to buy one there.  Is it even worth getting a more expensive GPU with a ryzen 5 2nd gen, even if i plan on upgrading in the future?

That is the whole point, but you want a good motherboard to build on, and later you can always upgrade the cpu to a Ryzen 3600, then add the exact same 8gb of ram into its matching ram slot for dual channel, then maybe down the line get a better gpu once your gaming regularly on AAA games.
