just saw a vid from gamers nexus about the ram config on the x570 taichi... they use t-top tech instead of daisy chaining, meaning the board is more optimal for 4x ram setups 

4x  8/16/32GB

 

but the CPU only supports dual channel... how would this impact performance?

sorry forgot to mention i plan on using a 3950x..

For quad channel mobo needs to have 8 slots. The video probably means that something in BIOS is more optimized for populating all slots.
