It depends on a few other factors.

 

What kind of screen size are you looking at?  (I'd go with a 15-inch system for your tasks, but if you're looking for a 13-inch system that'll change the recommendations.

 

How important are portability and battery life?  Weight and battery life won't matter much if you only seldomly move the system, but they're important if you'll carry this everywhere or expect to do work away from a wall outlet for a few hours.

 

One thing I'll also indicate: for less than $1,500, you'll probably have to accept that it won't be the absolute best gaming experience.  It'll be good, but you won't be playing all the latest games at full detail for years to come.
