I've had this computer since around last year; and considered upgrading the CPU; however when I looked at the specifications via CPUz and the AMD site; I noticed my chip wasn't running at the correct speed, infact it was lower...

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-FX-Series%20FX-8120.html <-- The speed I saw on the site

And these are the speeds I'm getting

I mean, I suppose 300MHz isnt a lot, but it's still a loss..I'm afraid of buying another cpu and having the same issue...

My motherboard model is: Gigabyte M68MT-S2

Any help or suggestions would be lovely. :/

I think it is the cool and quiet option in the bios which downclocks and overclocks the chips when needed to keep noise and heat down

Hope I could help!

I'll take a look at that bios option next time I boot it.

you're not under load, it won't work at max clock.

i'd be scared of OCing on that board though, so I assume you aren't.

At the time of the print screen, I was running with around 40% CPu usage (Guild wars 2 is a horrible cpu hog :<); I'll take try a stress test laterish

And I'm absolutely not OCing on this board.

you must have cool n quiet enabled. disable everything in that category and you should run consistantly at stock speeds.
