APU or Cheap GPU

ProMeth

In just pure gaming scenario what would be a better option?

1. R3 1200 with a RX 550 2GB

2. R5 2400 with Vega 11

No dual channel memory just a 8gig stick @3200mhz.

A cheap gpu leaves you in a better position to upgrade later without having the wasted integrated graphics

Why not get a dual stick for a total 8gb? 2x4gb? Thought the tests pointed at that being a better choice for budget rigs in terms of Ryzen performance? Going dual channel like that would increase performance on either side of whichever graphics choice you make from what I have seen on the youtubes.

My First (Current) Build:

Ryzen 7 2700 (3.90 1.35v OC) | Asus Prime X470 Pro | G.Skill Ripjaws V 16gb 3200 | Inland Professional 512gb M.2 NVME | Samsung 860 Evo Sata M.2 1TB | Corsair H115i Platinum | Corsair ML 140 RGB Fans | Fractal Design Meshify C | EVGA RTX 2070 XC Ultra

Laptop:

HP Spectre X360 13t Gem Cut (i7 8565u, 240gb, 8gb mem)

My Ride:

2015 VW Golf TDI Sportwagen

Eventually an XJ manual...

Will you have any upcoming budget in the near future?

The Vega 11 isn't fantastic, but it could certainly hold you over until you can grab a used 580 8GB. Used they go for ~$90.

Plop that in with your 2400G and you've got a faster, multithreaded CPU over the 1200. The 550 just isnt worth the dime.
