Computer Shuts it's self down!

Go to solution Solved by birdflyer,

Update:

We ended up replacing the MB and case, very well could have been either. Anyway, problem is all fixed, haven't had any issues for the last year.

Greetings community,

I have been experiencing a very perplexing problem. My computer doesn't actually "shut-down", it goes into a state of unresponsiveness at seemingly completely random times. The screen goes black, the graphics card lights go dim, the mouse and keyboard completely turn off and become unresponsive. (and the power button/restart button does nothing.) The only thing to get it out of this state is pulling the plug. We thought originally it was the power supply supply so we got a new power supply. that didn't work. so we thought it might be the c-mos battery, but no. We reset the bios to factory settings as well and that didn't help either. because we are using Asus, we thought it might be the Ai over-clocker. but that wasn't it. OK, well maybe it is the RAM! Unfortunately it is not. We did a memtest and results were fine. (see photos). I am at a loss, What should I do?

Thanks, Birdflyer

PS: I'm pretty sure that it isn't the graphics card because the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive.

The computer is the build on my profile.p1JaX9usE6YDMt8GaxmhpnqnFw-nk8dHuK9vZk5Gl7i-y7D4yj-MjxpnAVZNDTBPaXMTyY4m52FLe42nuzvyH2OpCeaObJCVoGrTn2xbfkv6BOUaOt8aWjFNVvjnnuNnmc8dTiZWoL3r2gVNNbJb3DFfkS3EhXYKiKe62LTJ16T1RbdxPXo83HDwLXxrUE-oRcyy3LK45LrFyngq1f_54EHxjHJ4amaTCQcq419j_LLhIyM1DwgxXjrM0OAy-nIA6QHPiq_GZHRd07BOTdkQeJEDYR60eUV32l3BKjmEWGt5JZeaX1YaHT2NffVkZUhnEJ_RdA9MDgo0OkIrZhuQBAKXkFxgiMHqd84BByc6OuTdnJsw7s7SIr0DNd-mJxlAyj9ahvOFks3U9GZp92oEWhiDlp58OyFqHT7mPjZDePIEk8MVMf_tKItUcnAzfuIDXwadJKTWqKdyQNNdznbo2qvRMhiej1IAzQbX8qWeuNMKn8T_c5g8j0eb0nJgJY24yNgvvbsxCqjzP-T2mW2yPkt11mS4W-QRPYyiSXPC-80La0UPqvszxMZbFaDHzJo274y_E6O4NYXXkL7epzvbsvmdxQBogg8tqSaGWgHPbpZ1pkIjZmPGOXwdJYUGuf5ne6HtQ4EbZXUSumM4TtP-rrT7DLjVuU9TB45E5Kl75VTTnPh9Gansvg=w1460-h1095-no5iEyUKVFm31iJQIqVWVETWkAJ-is1bY0ZMSDBmyvbbrCcR8OKFXh6ZcqDnniI0pbauZg4cj4iEGfLS9urEq-PHcq5Uhfgabl-sqtw6vdePs3Cepe5hdR3Z4PQ1ONwFPiOXShqToAOMPojoqe1th5_fPezHiFEZ97bhJZPFVn-gRJC2ERx5UkSBLR_v9TYNPzZ2U6hQtCfremoUJQT4hTMOGS9Kd-hueDHWt0_BMDmAh-FndeaLtlLZy9A6brALOGs68BTgeeC4qXSlcWzc4J-JQH37XP1j5sUAW6mHLFyaLspxMNN4IBaN5Ny-5ZhmFRuELpyVtiDMo0TCyaNQm2t4wSyYMumUWlGxinOVTNQAx5-oNxx_ElwKqzUH1tmDnoipjzt4dY1ntSY7oSHOvIiWfFw780BMRrAHa5kyoVxNCLgwT55MhzK8I232YEcY96oPGMavgw0XEvs3V7yzOrU89kQ_nvnO4c4vg2NPLkraSH4Y908GLQKV00sHDcbZ57dfsUBdxPx_2DBYKaqImu3AHRCjrYhqPVerx56m-zZ39WXqAj_YfLBPysiv2pyDB0xXASf5sxSx8PyKb1w7tXTtZXlKzqhW92k6ESOLFr5jctCM1EJsEIDO0n5KFWls1otKpTOEzXc_elUJzVoSbymtXaIYq2txMEqGZjC89poUFnt6nwpsNBkw=w1460-h1095-no

You gave us absolutely no information about your computer except "help my computer acts like it turns off randomly"

We have have absolutely no idea what you're even using.  You have to give us information if you want help.

Start by telling us the basics, like,

Video card model?

Motherboard exact model?  Saying "It's an Asus" tells us absolutely nothing.
CPU brand and model?

RAM type, brand and configuration installed?

Monitor model/type?

Operating system?

USB devices plugged in (e.g. any powered hubs or other devices?)

System overclocked or stock?

All these things help us to take things a step farther.

*Edit*

I know you said it's on your profile.  But people don't like doing extra clicks to look at people's profiles.  A partpicker profile for building a new PC is one thing, but you really should list your system specs for us here, or add them into a signature so we can see what you're using quick and easy.  Sorry for the rant.

The computer is the build on my profile.

Since you've already replaced the RAM, PSU and CMOS; I think it's safe to assume that it's something to do with the motherboard.

I'd start by flashing the latest BIOS, if I was you.

All of the specs for my computer are on my profile. I know for a fact that it isn't the monitor, it just goes to sleep because there is nothing coming from the computer.

As far as the things not listed on my profile page,

Gpu: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/3pfhP6/gigabyte-radeon-rx-590-8-gb-gaming-8g-video-card-gv-rx590gaming-8gd

USB devices: printer, joy stick, mouse, and keyboard.

As I mentioned above the system is set to the factory defaults.

Ok sounds good.

PS: I actually just ran memtest, I didn't replace the ram.

Disable C-states in your BIOS (all of them) and see if the problem still happens, please.

Ok I will try that.

I'm not familiar with power saving on AMD hardware so someone else can chime in.

OK, I Disabled c-states we will have to see what happens. I forgot to mention that the shutdowns don't have to do with power draw at all. I ran cinebench and the heaven benchmark at the same time and it didn't shut down at all. both the CPU and GPU were at 100% and nothing happened, so I assume that we have definitely narrowed it down to the MB.

Update:

We ended up replacing the MB and case, very well could have been either. Anyway, problem is all fixed, haven't had any issues for the last year.
