I'm gonna build a new computer in a few weeks and was wondering if it is possible for me to use the product key for windows from an old laptop i have, the laptop is a lenovo g700 that originally came with windows 8 or 8.1 not really sure.

I tried searching around the internet for an answer to this but i didn't happen to find anything that gave me a conclusive answer to this question so i'm hoping that you lovely people on here can give an answer to this question i've been pondering on.

Was the laptop upgraded to Windows 10?
If so, logging in to a Microsoft account on it, logging in on that same Microsoft account on the new PC and then saying "my hardware changed" might work. It might also not work, in which case you could try the automatic Microsoft hotline for key transfers (which as I have heard usually doesn't work).

I do have experience with transferring the W10 license in the first way mentioned and it worked fine for me.

The upgrading to W10 or the logging in?

The upgrade will make the login method available to you.

If none of that works for you though, you are probably out of luck.  Laptops generally ship with OEM licenses, not retail, so they are theoretically not possible to move to a new system.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.
