I recently ripped a bunch of Blu-rays and found that some are encoded in H.264 (AVC) and VC-1. I did some research and found out VC-1 was made by Microsoft in 2003. The file sizes of movies encoded in H.264 and VC-1 are similar to each other. My question is what are the differences between the two?

How technical do you want to get? Here's a Wikipedia page that compares them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_H.264_and_VC-1
