Hello,

I've been tinkering with computers long enough..but never bothered to do anything with any kind of network settings.. so it's a big gray area for me..

I've made a hardware update and I fail to connect all things so that they actually work.

The hardware now:

PC with gigabit ethernet card

Netgear GS308 Unmanaged gigabit switch

ASUS RT-N66U 450mbit wireless router

Bufallo LS410D NAS

I used to run everything through an older wifi router, that only supported 100mbit/sec speeds. But everything worked..

Now that I have a switch, I run everything that I can wired (TV, PC, Laptop sometimes) and I want to run the NAS through the switch as well, but since I've not plugged it in the router - I can't find it.

I tried to educate myself and find it somewhere between 192.168.1.0 and 192.168.1.255 but with no luck..

Any Ideas how to get everything up and running through wires, rather than trying to put all the load on the router?

Thanks in advance!

The NAS probably gets its IP via DHCP from the router, so router's DHCP leases list should reveal its IP. Looks like ASUS has a handy dandy dummy website for their router UI, look this up on your box: https://event.asus.com/2009/networks/dummy_ui/en/Main_DHCPStatus_Content.html

And yeah, just plug every device to your switch, they'll talk to each other via Layer 2 and only bother your router for Internet access.

Ok, I failed to mention that my PC (wired to the switch) doesn't want to connect to the ASUS's router web interface (192.168.0.1.), but I can access it through a WIFI connection.

Everything is physically interconnected through the switch atm

At this very moment.. I left my laptop at work, I have nothing but my smartphone to access a wifi connection, because my PC doesnt have wifi built in..

Any ideas how to solve this in this situation? :D
