ideas how to log into ubuntu?

i bought an old pc from some guy and it has ubuntu installed, i have no idea what his username or password were though how do i get in so i can remove ubuntu, or how do i make a new account?

boot into recovery with clicking ESCAPE as it boots to the screen in the image SELECT "ubuntu recovery" most likely the one in the bottom.

then select command line.

 

then enter the following:

passwd USERNAME

 

replace username with the username of the ubuntu user.

if you dont know it then you can run: adduser USERNAME

replace username with whatever username you want
