$1400 build without a gpu

Prof. Lucifer

Hello, my friend doesn't have an account on the ltt forums and he's too lazy to make one so he asked me to post this here.

What is the best build he can get for $1400, he does a lot of video editing and sometimes gaming, also he uses a 4k monitor.

He said no gpu because in his budget, it would be hard to fit in a gpu and keep the build great so he plans on buying a gpu in the future.

What country?

you need a GPU to do video editing for the acceleration lol

what video editing software?

If it's in the US that's plenty to get a good PC. Even outside of it an R5 2600 or R5 3600 + RX 5700 shouldn't be hard to find.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

yes it's easy. Besides not having a GPU alone will make it suck

4K resolution and No GPU.

That would be quite trivial for video editing. You need a decent GPU to get 4k resolution and also the fact that he's doing video editing, yeah.

If he's using Adobe Premier, you'll definitely need a GPU.

For a budget of 1400 USD you can definitely build a decent gaming PC that can do video editing as well.

He needs at least a cheap GPU to hook up monitors to, otherwise he's stuck with the APU options.

The 9900K is a great CPU with IGPU, but just utilizing the graphics will throttle the performance. But if we are being honest the few victories the 9900K claims over the 3900X are not big enough to justify it, imo. (And the 3900X needs a discreet GPU.)

Sorry for not clarifying, my friend doesn't need the PC until the next school year but he's planning to build it early then buy the GPU later on so he's only going to be using the desktop for basic stuff until next year.

That's still plenty of money for a mid range GPU

Just get any case with a Mesh Front

Actually, I thought Chinese prices were similar, turns out they're a tad more expensive. So $1400 USD of stuff would probably cost only $1200 in the us, so the budget is more like $1200

You're also going to want an MSI B450 board with USB bios flashing, so it can be updated without a CPU for Ryzen 3000 in case it needs it.

Is the stock cooler good of the CPU good? Idk about my stuff.

It's just fine for standard use and can support some lighter overclocking.

If he plans to overclock, then grab a Dark Rock Pro 4.

I particularly like this case because it supports a nice deep cooler like that or the noctua NHD15.

That or a Noctua cooler are more for silence

as a cheaper Neptwin or Scythe Fuma 2 likely has comparable performance.

That one's just a single tower with a 2nd fan thrown on, it's not a major upgrade over the normal freezer 33, like a dual tower would be

I've seen many reviews that disagree. (Though looking at the thin body, it does look to be single tower + fan.)

Really bad GPU with an overkill system and expensive parts. Why doesn't he wait 1 year to build it ?

If he wants to buy a GPU later though it's not really a great build as the 9700k doesn't have HT.

With a better GPU.

Well, some people are impatient, and sadly my friend is too. Also neither me nor him know or stuff well.

He could have a complete computer for 1200€ with a 3600+2070S if he wants.

Well, the focus of the computer is not for gaming and I don't know my stuff so naturally I just assumed the CPU would be more important.

Adobe likes iGPU (intel) and Cuda (Nvidia) but AMD is fine too if on a budget :)
