Hi there,

So I have an older sytem (I5 4570, 16GB DDR3)  but i recently purchased a new GPU to start my upgrade process.

I will eventually be going to a ryzen build but i can only buy a few parts at a time and I want to buy DDR4 ram, cpu and mobo all at once so i can test for failures right away.

So then,  my question is, is this an ok adapter since my mobo doesnt support NVME  but i want it in the future, can i buy this for now and 2 SSDs?.. also does it just get power through PCIE and still needs to use that sata plug to go to mobo?

thanks for all the help

You will not be able to use it as a boot drive as your motherboard will not support it, so you may be better off waiting till you upgrade your board. Another thing to consider is X570 AM4 boards support PCI Gen 4. If you wait you could grab a Gen 4 NVMe drive when you replace your board.

dont need it as a boot drive so thats fine, and x570 is to pricey for my blood  waiting until the b550 boards are out..  this is just for game storage

OK take a look at this. But you should know SATA SSD's are still the best price/performance for gaming. The decision is yours but I don't think you'll be happy with the performance gains after spending all that money if it's purely intended for gaming.

This is just to hold me over till i get the new set up which will benefit more from NVME  this adapter is 15$ CAD right now... im just wondering if it will work for my intended purpose.   Sata ssd and nvme ssds are compareable in price that i dont mind taking the hit in performance now and spending the extra 15$ to get the nvme drives now rather than later
