Hi all,

just got a samsung 970 evo plus 1tb to replace a 960 evo 500gb. Used macrium reflect to make the clone then partition wizard to increase the size. Swapped them and get welcomed with a bluescreen that says INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

I'm almost asleep, but I'll give this a shot. What os are you cloning? Also is there a reason why you can't just do a fresh install? I know it can be a pain but it tends to work better.

Windows 10. I could but like you said it's a pain to do. I did a clone the other day successfully. Think it may have something to do with the the new drive being assigned as D drive.

OK, I'm not familiar with the reflect software. I've had good luck with MiniTool Partition Wizard free version. It has a clone os to ssd option that seems to work well. I believe it copies the data outside of live windows so windows doesn't funk with the drive's boot info as soon as the software's done. I know the windows secure boot and hidden partitions on the disk can be rather picky at times. Might be worth a shot it's free and all.

I did try partition wizards cloning tool but it said the drive that's being cloned is in use when I've got nothing open.

Yeah you have to run as admin and it should prompt you to reboot to apply pending changes. after it's done make sure it doesn't boot into the old drive with the new one installed, select new drive in bios as default, and you should be up and running with any luck. It's worth noting that sometimes windows may need to reload part of it's drivers after a clone. It should do so automatically.

Tried running as admin. It finished but said I ran out of memory so it failed...

Well I'm at a loss as to why. These are NVMe M.2 drives right? I've not tried to clone one before. I wonder if they are different? Also it's occurred to me that Samsung has a cloning tool for their drives. I've never used it but I've heard it's good. Maybe worth a shot? I think the DATA MIGRATION tab is the one you need.

Even just cloning and swapping the drives didn't work. So I tried booting into safe mode then extending the drive and it boots fine for now I guess.
