they are two separate numbers, whether one will bottleneck the other is entirely dependent on the task you're doing

Cinebench R15 Single thread:168 Multi-thread: 833 

SuperPi (v1.5 from Techpowerup, PI value output) 16K: 0.100s 1M: 8.255s 32M: 7m 45.93s

XMP won't hurt anything, but the 8700K won't be helped by it that much either. Overclocking an 8700K is great, and can get some pretty impressive extra performance, especially in multi-core loads, but isn't necessary for the system to just run well, and stably.

then what games? Everything is a bit different as far as the system's concerned.
