21:9 1440 display? Which and why? Shoot!

sabre350Z

So i'm going to upgrade my monitor from a 23" 16:9 1080p 60hz to a 21:9 1440p.

Any suggestion on which is better and why?

i'm looking for an IPS panel, but is there such a big difference between IPS and VA?

Does somebody have experience with brands and complains of some brands or manufacturing of the monitors

i have a 1000€ budget for a new monitor and so far i've come across Alienware AW3418DW and Acer Predator x34 or x34p i believe,

@sabre350Z

IPS displays look terrible in dark rooms (due to IPS glow), and dont look as good displaying dark scenes. VA is better in that regard.

However VA has a hard time with pixel transition speeds of dark transitions, resulting in ghosting, whilst IPS is more even across all transitions.

Acer Predator isn't even on that list, is it so bad then? i also got an Nvidia GPU so G-Sync would be preferable.

rtings hasnt reviewed it, however tftcentral has.

rtings and tftcentral have different testing methodologies,so take that into account. Thankfully however tftcentral have tested both the monitors u have listed. IMO the Alienware is the better of the 2.

It is however IPS so be prepared for the panel lottery in that regard.

ok, i think its going to be that one probably, i've got a friend who had a colorimeter to set up the colours and gamma on the monitor. so that won't be a problem for me.

Thanks for the feedback!
