R9 290X VRM Temps

I currently have a H55 fitted to my 290X with an NZXT Kraken G10 bracket and have been getting some amazing temps on the GPU... but... VRM1 is a different story, i have tried various different heatsinks to cool them down, ihave tried the ones that came with the Arctic Accelero Xtreme III and one from the Alpenfohn VGA heatsink pack (which fitted with a great squeeze)

 

It is an amazing overclocker of a card, i've got a stable overclock of 1200/1680 but i'm still getting temps of around 105 Degrees on VRM1 which is FAR too hot for my liking.

 

What else can I try?

Do you have a fan attached to the fan mount on the g10?

105°C is a bit hot, but it's still safe. Most Air coolers will have the VRMs at about 95-100°C, so no biggie.

There are full copper VRM heatsinks that you can buy, or if you want to go balls to the walls, drop $30 and get one of these

I was looking at these but wasn't 100% sure if they'd fit or not

make sure your fan is blowing onto the card and not drawing air away from the vrm. 

 

i just did a similar thing with cutting up a old heatsink and cable ties.  are the temps anything like these under load.

 

what are your overclocking settings
