I apologise for the newbie questions guys (I do promise I do know what im talking about to some extent)
I have a GA-Z170-HD3 board (LGA 1151) and was looking to invest in an i7-9700K I noticed on Intel's motherboard comparability checker that there is no Z170 board compatible with the 9700K. I'm fairly sure that this means the CPU and motherboard do not go together. I however just wanted to check before i invested in a new motherboard in case I can get away with using my current one.

Thanks for the help guys!

It can but you need a lot of bios updates and all but it's really complicated, you will need a z370 or z390 motherboard. I suggest the Z390 Aorus Elite.
