PC Random shut offs

natedogmiller2000

Hi, I need help with my computer; it'll randomly shut off and only the rgb from the motherboard will show. After this happens touching the power button, clicking keys, mouse, etc. won't give any response. The only way to restart the computer is by powering off the power supply and turning it back on. The problem usually happens when it's idle and in a screensaver but has happened 3 times while using it.

My specs:

OS: Windows 10 pro 64-bit ver. 1903

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x

MOBO: Asus x570 Prime-Pro Bios ver. 1201

RAM: 32gb crucial ballistix sport 3200mhz

GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 ti Gaming Black

CPU COOLER: NZXT Kraken x72

PSU: EVGA supernova 750 g3 (750 watt)

CASE: Corsair 750d

SSD: Samsung 970 evo 250gb, Crucial P1 1tb

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 6tb 5400rpm

extra: elgato hd60 pro, lg blu-ray drive

  1. Double check that all of your cables from your PSU are plugged into your motherboard properly.
  2. If you're using a surge protector, PDU, or UPS bypass it and plug the computer directly into an outlet and test for stability.
  3. If you have another cable for your PSU try that as well.
  4. PSU could be bad if so RMA.

I had random shut offs on X570, the ASUS BIOS was at fault in my case.

It was not providing enough current for my RAM by default, I had to change this setting from the default 100% to 130% after which it never shuts off.

You may have different issues though. But this is worth a try.

Run the following two commands to make sure there are no damaged blocks in your system:

sfc /scannow

CHKDSK

The problem you are describing is also related to a feature to save energy, when you use the storage device again, that device stays in that mode without realizing that it should come out from its low power comsumption mode. This is usually corrected by making firmware updates, so check for firmware updates for you both for the storage devices and for the MOBO.
