So, im trying to put together a cheap build. Now to get the most value I'm going for an older office machine and working my way up from there. Now I am looking for a gpu for around 35-40£ (around 50$) and the gpu should be faster or as fast as a 1050 mobile (turns out that a 1050 on a laptop is not anything like a 1050 on pc and kind of got angry of getting scammed so no more laptops for me)

I looked at an HD 7870 and a gtx 670, now both cards fit within the budget and are much better than the mentioned 1050, the only issue is that both require extra power connectors. For the build I chose an optiplex 7010, and as any optiplex it can't power the card. Now a PSU is a good investment for the system anyway for the future but it costs and additional 25£-30£.

So do I get the 670 or HD 7870 and the PSU?

Or do I pick up a gpu at a higher price (around 70£) that can be powered by the PCIe slot?

Thanks.

(Note: the optiplex has a standard 24pin to power the motherboard so no adaptors needed)

You could drop down and get an HD 7770, no extra power required

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

It's worth checking if it's not a version that does require a 6-pin tho.

My MSI HD7770 needs a 6-pin for example so it's something to watch out for.

Save, and get a PSU

Here is a cheap good one. Try maybe getting r9 270x or hd 7950 or the hd 7870 as mentioned.

If you are going nvidia, i do not suggest going older than maxwell.

Why? What's wrong with older nvidia cards?

They didnt age perticularly well. 780ti is okay, but compared to contemporary GPUs its not fantastic.

Maxwell and pascal are pretty good.

Also good old GVN gives you async rendering which is useful in newer titles.

I found this power supply for less, and it seems alright to me, you can't really go wrong with an 80+ bronze, it's just that I'm not sure which connectors I specifically need.

Edit: What connectors do I need to power the system without the graphics card, I know there's the 24pin and and a 4pin cpu one.

yes you can. a lot of them arent great....... its an efficiency rating, nothing more.

i found the cheapest decent one

and from my understanding to power the computer I need a 4 pin for the cpu, a 20+4 pin for the motherboard, and thats it. The other 8 pin eps and 6 pin are for graphics card. The rest are sata and molex.

Also the power supply has got decent reviews on amazon, tge naubky

Ive asked around PSU people kf Gamemax has some ibteresting low cost offerings. From my ubderstabding they dont.

And amazon reviews arent PSU reviews. They are customer reviews.
