Hey peoples,

I am planning to build my PC and I've heard that you should build it on an anti-static surface, so i am wondering if i can build it on a Melamine Surface? Would wood be better? Should i be standing on wood floorboards or ceramic tiles? Sorry if these are stupid questions, this is going to be my first build. Thanks to anyone who helps!

Melamine is fine to build on. Wood floorboards and ceramic tiles are also fine to stand on. Most surfaces is fine for building on. Just don't do something reckless like building on a metal table :D

Please mention or quote me if you want a response. :)

You can build it on the cardboard box the motherboard comes in.

You could also just spread some sheets of paper on the desk.

The work surface is not a problem... you being charged with static electricity could be... just make sure you discharge yourself by touching something grounded...easiest would be to unpack the power supply first and plug it in a grounded/earthed mains outlet and touch the metal case of the power supply from time to time (or just before you're about to touch a circuit board that may have exposed leads/pins/pads).

Even when it's not turned on, the power supply's case is connected to the earthing/grounding wire in the outlet and if you're charged with static electricity, you'll discharge through the metal case of the psu.
