Hey,

I'm new here. So I'm not sure this is the place to post this. But recently I've been having an issue with my pc where it would freeze for about a second. It only happens when I game. I've been testing it in a few different scenarios. My 2nd monitor (YouTube videos) don't freeze when it happens, only the game does. The sound doesn't drop. I'm not losing internet. I've watched what happens in my task manager when the freezes happen and it seems like during those spikes my cpu and gpu dip down and my HDD spikes up (to about 40% ish). The time I notice it the most is while I play WoW. It seems that when I start it doesn't freeze as much and towards the end of the raid night it would freeze every 10-30 seconds for 1 second each time.

I tried updating my drivers. I tried reinstalling the game. I don't know what it is.

I have windows 10 and it's not the 100% disk thing. I have the i9-9900k processor, 1070 gtx graphics card. My pc should be able to run any game super smoothly for the most part.

Do you guys think it's a hardware issue? Have you ever came across anything like that?

I would love to hear some suggestions.

Edit: I tried swapping my monitors around and playing on my 2nd one and the the 2nd one froze and the 1st one was still running YouTube. So it's not a monitor thing.

I also obviously tried running the game on lower graphics and with nothing running in the background and no add-ons.

These freezes also happen on games that aren't that heavy like rimworld and the binding of Isaac (when entering new rooms never froze in the middle of a room). Very rarely happens on csgo.

Edit no. 2: 16gb ram. Figured it's important info ^^

may i ask what your system specs are, how old the system is and if you have it cleaned on the inside?

i encountered very similar behavior once many years ago, and the issue was that my Nvidia 9800gt (yes, THAT long ago ^^) was clogged up with dust and was overheating.

Thank you for answering! ^^

Everything is about a year old except my graphics card, fans and power pack (salvaged from my old pc when I built this new one). I haven't cleaned it since but I also have a magnetic dust.. Net thing on the case that gathers the dust so it doesn't gather up inside.

I'm sorry if this comes off as a dumb question but how often should I clean my pc and how do I do it? Do I have to take away the components and then reattach them?

< clueless I know.

Regarding system specs, isn't it the processor ram and gpu I've already mentioned above?

not at all. i do not know how often you "should" clean your pc. i personally, nowadays, do it one to twice a year.

just look in from time to time, you'll notice when dust gathers inside.

as far as the how to is conserned, i personally carefully whipe off my dustfilters (they are a bit on the fragile side) and blow out the case with canned air. thats about it.

ah, ok, so that might not be the issue then.

maybe you could install something like HWinfo, HWmonitor or something along those lines to see system temprature. gpu ones mainly. so msi afterburner works aswell. just to make sure its not an heat issue. just sounds so similar to what i expirienced it may be worth to have a look.
