CPU lapping

I am not sure, whether this is the correct forum, so sorry in advance if I made a mistake. Now to my original Question.

There is a lot of knowledge online about CPU lapping, but it is mostly 5 Years old and older. Is lapping not a thing anymore? 
Has anyone lapped his CPU and or cooler?

If you have time, yea. The gain is 1 - 2C. I lapped a couple of CPU, a 5820K and 4790K. However I'm lazy now. Unless that particular IHS or cold plate is really bad.
