Hello, I am thinking about improving my current build so I can get decent fps on RDR2.

I currently have:

8GB RAM

240Gb SSD

GTX 960 OC 4GB

i5 6400 with a 1151 motherboard.

I can't decide if I need to get a better GPU or CPU first.  I'm willing to spend 335 euros.

I'm considering choosing between a GTX 1660 TI or the i5 9600K with a new MO. (these 2 options are the same price and it's really hard to choose)

What should I do? Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance ❤️

we have yet to see RDR2 performance metrics, we don't know how well it scales with either more cores or better GPUs yet, so ideally the game comes out and we see what the ideal configuration is.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

This is kinda the same as the Cyberpunk 2077 questions I've seen lately. We can make an educated guess, but there's no solid numbers yet so nobody can give you actual facts other than the developers themselves.

You are right. But I want my configuration to be better in all games not just RDR2, sorry for making it sound like that..

What would you recommend upgrading first?

Oh, okay, I'll wait for the release then.

But still, in general, what's the better thing to upgrade for better performances (mainly gaming)

That's pretty tricky, both your CPU and GPU could use an upgrade. If you play newer titles that like 6+ cores I'd look at getting a hexacore CPU and just lowering graphics, if your games are okay with a 4c/4t then I'd look at getting a GPU upgrade.

Since you know you want to upgrade both for upcoming AAA titles and such, I recommend saving to just do them both at the same time. If anything, I suppose graphics card first would be nice, then grab a Ryzen CPU later on.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

just a quick question... as upgrading your cpu would need you to get a new mobo anyway, would Ryzen 5 3600 be an option for you?

just saw that the i5 9600K sells for 250€ here while the 3600 is only 200€

whats your budget for cpu + mobo?

maybe you could get R5 3600 + a decent B450 mobo + a used gpu upgrade (or save up on a new gpu)

ofc you could also do it the other way around

just spitballing here as i have no idea what hardware costs in romania, how your used marked is, and what the savings would be from going AMD instead on Intel

Find a used GTX 1070/ti on the cheap

otherwise the RX 5700 is more like a 2070 with some tweaking at around the same price as the 1660ti

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?
